Our Artists are Small-Production and Local to one of our Shops
LOCAL
The Artisans associated with CrystallineVelvet are either local to the Springfield, MO area where our brick-and-mortar shop was located, or within the SouthWest/MidWest regions - artists that were with Taffy in her first CV jewelry shop in Geneva, Illinois.
Most of CrystallineVelvet's pieces are either one-of-a-kind or very short runs, so it's unlikely you'll see your purchased piece on someone else.
All of our Artisans are passionate about their craft, serious about the quality of their work and love making pieces that will be enjoyed for years to come by those who purchase them.
~Taffy~ Taffy is the owner of CrystallineVelvet. A loving wife and mother of three grown sons, she is known for her love for God and having a heart for people. Taffy got into the making of jewelry quite by accident. Her friend Frank asked if she knew how to make earrings as he wanted to add them to his gift shop. Her reply: "No, but I can learn". And the next thing she knew, she was opening a jewelry shop. CrystallineVelvet was born from her desire to help the "little guy"...artists who love what they do but are unable to design, craft, and sell full time due to their life responsibilities. Each artist occupies a jewelry display case in CV's brick-and-mortar shop where they can display their work.
Ginny Ginny is a retired RN who originally wanted to follow her artistic talents but had no idea how to make that happen. As she also loved taking care of animals, plants, etc., she found nursing to be a more practical choice. Ginny loved nursing and believes it taught her much of what she knows about life.
After Ginny retired, a friend taught her some amazing jewelry making techniques and she was "bitten"!
Ginny was the first artist to join CrystallineVelvet's first brick & mortar shop when it opened in Geneve, IL, and has shown her jewelry in CV since. Her hope is that you enjoy her pieces as much as she has enjoyed making them.
Kathi Kathi is a Springfield area artist who has been making jeweled creations as keepsakes, gifts and heirlooms for 8 years. Her artistic journey began by fashioning jeweled trees for her sisters that they could pass on to their children as an heirloom.
She detailed snippets of their life story and interests through color, adding in personal pieces of their jewelry and also items belonging to their parents. The finished product reflects and sparkles offering a different view from every angle. All of Kathi's creations are unique, one of a kind and can be displayed year round.
417 Magazine featured Kathi and her jeweled trees in the December 2019 issue.
Kathy Kathy has been making jewelry since, on a whim, she took a class with a friend about 20 years ago.She loves the process of putting colors together, coming up with new and exciting combinations.
While her designs are intricate, she never sketches things out in advance, but just lets the beads speak to her. Kathy has taken a number of classes from nationally known artists like Sherri Serafini, Anne Benson, and Jamie Cloud Eakin to hone and improve her skills. She has entered a number of contests on the national level and her skills at bead embroidery have enabled her to win numerous prizes and recognition.
Heath Heath has enjoyed building things most of his life. A large part of his career was spent in sales, but in 2014 his wife and he decided to foster and adopt a child. He felt he needed a way to work from home.
Upon going to a craft show in Nashville and seeing jewelry made out of flatware, Heath's wife asked him to see if he could make jewelry from her grandmother's silverware for her family as keepsakes.
While he had some experience with metal-working, he had never made jewelry. Determined to learn, he taught himself how and eventually started selling his flatware jewelry at local shops and online. Now, nine years later, he has his own Etsy Shop and has sold his creations all over the Untied States and even the world.
Heath has a large selection of silver-plate flatware, but he can also do custom work using a customer's own flatware.
