"Dichroic" is defined as the property of having more than one color. When viewed from different angles, dichroic glass can seem to shift colors dramatically. Dichroic glass is glass that has had micro-thin layers of metallic oxides deposited onto its surface under high heat and within a vacuum. This glass is then used by the artist to create a lampworked or kiln-fused glass piece to incorporate into many different kinds of jewelry. No two pieces are every exactly alike.
The colors come from the dichroic coatings ability to transmit one (or more) colors while at the same time reflecting others which creates a kind of interference-effect similar to the irridescence of peacock or hummingbird feathers, or as seen in opals or butterfly wings.
While we can photograph and describe some of the more dominant colors of each piece in our description, there may be many more colors visible when seen in person.
